Robot Bob Character

Robot Bob Character

Project Overview

This project began as a collaborative storytelling exercise where the class created multiple story ideas, then broke them apart and rearranged sections so that each group received a unique combination of story elements from different teams. From that process, I was assigned to develop a character for one of the new stories, which led to the creation of Robot Bob. The project required more than just a final character design; I also had to create a construction sheet, an emotion sheet, and a series of dynamic poses to show how the character moves and expresses itself. These additional sheets were important because they helped define the character clearly enough that another artist or animator could understand how to draw and animate it consistently. The most challenging part was developing the dynamic poses, because I had to carefully think through how each joint and connection would rotate, bend, and interact in motion. If a pose did not make mechanical sense, I often had to return to the original design and adjust parts of the character so the movement would feel believable. Through this project, I learned how much planning goes into character design for animation, and how essential these supporting materials are for maintaining consistency and helping animators understand how a character should function across different scenes.
